Here is the latest edition of the HPS Tech News (Thanks Sue!). You can also access previous issues under the `Technology' tab at the top of the page. Although discussing High School maths, I think this TED presentation is highly relevant to primary teachers too. Please add any thoughts/opinions by leaving a comment.
This week's TPL was a Problem solving session (run using adobe connect). We were lucky to have Johnny Baker from Natural Maths to answer any questions we had around problem solving using the STAR model. We came away from the afternoon with new ideas and enthusiasm ready to head back to our classes and work on problem solving!
Please leave any comments or feedback you would like to give on the session. This might offer some strategies that you can try in your classroom to improve participation and engagement during reflection time.
Leave a comment and share if you try any of these strategies - we would all love to hear more about how you go. Thanks Tracey for reminding us about this easy but effective web tool. Click here to create you own.
It's not too late to join in the fun this Wednesday 21st May, 2014 for National Simultaneous Storytime. You can access the website here . There are also many great ideas to be found by clicking on the image below. Whilst you are there, make sure you have a good look around. `The Book Chook' has to be one of my favourite blogs of all time. There is always a wealth of fantastic literacy ideas to inspire, excellent book reviews to be read, app reviews and more. Have a look and see for yourself!
I have been reading many interesting posts about`Growth versus Fixed' mindsets and ways in which to foster a growth mindset (in our children AND ourselves). The post below provides links to a number of resources, ideas and videos that "could be used to teach students about the value of embracing challenges and finding a way to learn from mistakes".
Perhaps learning about our brains and the importance of challenging our brains could be a starting point for your students in working towards solving problems in many different contexts? An important question to be asking ourselves in light of today's TPL session! The article below comes from an interesting blog - plenty of great posts to read.
